Emre Yilmaz died tragically in January 2002 at a very young age. He is undoubtedly best known by the Canadian-Turkish community for his contribution to Turkish folklore, especially by those living in the Greater Metropolitan Toronto Area. He presented his outstanding Turkish folklore skills at many festivities and events in Canada and United States of America with the Anatolian Folk Dancers.

In order to commemorate his memory and his achievements the Anatolian Folk Dancers (AFD) and the Canadian Turkish Islamic Trust, Inc. (CTIT) have jointly established the EMRE YILMAZ SCHOLARSHIP (the “Scholarship”) in 2002.

The Scholarship is designed to encourage Turkish-Canadian students living in the Greater Metropolitan Toronto Area and its vicinity to pursue undergraduate studies in any field in a Canadian university. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to those students currently enrolled in a Canadian university as a freshman, sophomore, or junior, and who show commitment to their university studies.
